Real VS Fake: Chubby Mermaid Brush

Hey there, Loves! In my previous post, I have wrote my review for the original chubby mermaid brush from Mermaid Salon, you can read it here. However, since there are many fakes floating (pun intended) around on the Internet, I'm gonna compare the real VS fake brush in this post.

First, let's compare the price. I paid IDR150,000/SGD16 (free shipping) for the original one, while the fake one costs me IDR36,000 plus IDR9,000 shipping, so in total it costs me IDR45,000/SGD5. LIke I said in my previous post, I personally think IDR150,000 is pretty pricey for a single flatbuki brush like this.

Honestly speaking, if only looking at the two brushes, I can't tell if there is a fake among these two. They look practically the same to my eyes. However, after a more careful observation, I notice that the shape of the bristles are slightly different. The real one (which is the one on the right), has a more pointy shape while the fake one is more rounded.

The bristles also feel a bit different. The fake one feels softer, while the original one is a bit more dense. I need to say that I like denser bristles more since it has less streaky result on liquid/cream makeup products.

Another tiny difference is the handle/tail part. The ombre colour actually looks a bit different among these two brushes. On the tail of the original one, the blue colour starts to fade into pink on the middle part, while the blue on the fakes starts to fade on the lower end part. Not very important to the whole purpose of the brush actually, but just an FYI hehe.

The original Mermaid Brush with brush protector
Another thing to note is, the fake brush doesn't come with a brush protector like the original one. It only comes in a filmsy plastic packaging.

I made a video to show you how these two brushes perform during liquid foundation application, you can watch it here:

So to summarize, my objective on this post is to show you if there is any difference between the real deal and the fakes, and I didn't mean to encourage you to purchase the fake ones because I appreciate intellectual property and we really need to compensate people who invented creative products fairly. After all, the fakes can come with such cheap prices because they didn't go through the hassle of the invention & development process which is actually the one that is costly.

Thank you for visiting, Loves, talk to you soon 😘
